resource: literacy advocacy

For those of you entering public service, this video is a succinct overview of literacy as a systemic social justice issue. As you'll see, over half of adult Americans have a reading/writing skill level below what's necessary to thrive in society. Consider that your students may have guardians at home who are unable to assist with "easy" homework, or that patients collecting their prescriptions may not want to admit they're unable to read the instructions, or that clients may require audio communication.
