Introduction to Computers

Purpose

To learn the basics of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint

To learn the basic history of the internet, email browsers, etc.

To apply your knowledge by creating a Word document, an Excel workbook, and a PowerPoint presentation

Assignments

You have three assignments, one in each of the Office programs. Although three case studies are provided for each, I suggest you complete the following for the best hands-on experience:

  • Assignment 1 (Word); choose one from (1) Newsletter, or (2) Flyer; worth 10% of final grade

  • Assignment 2 (Excel); (2) Recreate a Worksheet - or (1) Inventory if you want to add some creativity; worth 10% of final grade

  • Assignment 3 (PowerPoint); choose one from (1) School Orientation, (2) Fundraiser, or (3) Club Meeting; worth 10% of final grade

You can find the written guidelines on ECampus.

Lower on this page, you will find video tutorials for each assignment demonstrating the necessary functions and formatting as well as discussing the criteria. You will also find a link to Example Assignments which you can use as inspiration. Note: Do not use templates in Word or Excel.

You will submit your assignments in their original file format (do not convert to pdf as this will cap your mark at 75%) by uploading them directly on ECampus. All three are due on the final day of your course by 4pm.
