Professional Skills (PSKO) Daily Schedule

Note: Subject to change. This document is not a substitution for the daily instructions provided in class meetings and on the Announcements tab of the lab site, which take precedence. Extra resources may be assigned, but no new assignments will be given. Professional Skills does not have any quizzes or exams. You will be graded on your participation and attendance. This course includes mandatory group work and mandatory presentations.

Assignment 1: Team Presentation

We will split the class into three groups. Each group will cover one assigned topic about collaboration: 1. project planning, goal setting, idea generation 2. traits of a good team member vs a good team leader 3. conflict resolution, including types of conflict

Criteria:

· each team member must have a chance to speak · all team members will receive the same grade · use your textbook (on ECampus) and the material on the lab site to do your research · find a minimum of three (3!) outside sources · include APA citations – yes, even for the textbook and class material · 10-15 minutes · must make an argument and back up that argument with evidence: persuasive · argument can be positive (x is good because) or negative (x is bad because) · must have a clear thesis · use of visual aids (PowerPoint) · will be presented Thursday

a. 250-500 words, size 12 font

b. submit as Word document (.doc or .docx) attached to your progress email

c. respond to the argument of one of your classmates

Assignment 2: Creative “Resume”

a. you may choose to do a poster, flyer, PPT, or other visual medium

b. introduce yourself to clients/customers/patients/students etc, as appropriate for your field

c. include info similar to that on a resume and/or cover letter – you can use documents you already have to get started

d. show your strengths, interests, background, education, experience, etc

e. make it pretty!

f. submit via email on the final day of the course
