wear orange tomorrow in honour of survivors of, and the children who died at, Residential Schools

A reminder that our campus is built on stolen land: the technical term is 'unceded.' Unceded means the land was never surrendered, sold, or otherwise given to Canada by the Indigenous peoples. VaCC Surrey occupies the ancestral territories of the Katzie, sc̓əwaθenaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsawwassen), Kwikwetlem, S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Kwantlen, and Stz'uminus peoples. Click on the name of each people to find out more.

Wear orange tomorrow.

If you're interested, the college has shirts for sale ($5 minimum donation) with all proceeds donated. Speak to Gislene at Front Desk for details.

You can also purchase directly from Indigenous artists. Click here for an article with several designs by Indigenous people, complete with links to buy. Click here for shirts, buttons, etc sold by IndigenARTSY. Click here for designs by Inuit artists.

If you've never done so, take a moment to check out this incredible, interactive map of "Canada" which shows the names, languages, and territories of the Indigenous peoples as they are without colonialism. The Canadian government also has an interactive map which shows the relationships between Indigenous tribes, the reservations onto which Indigenous peoples were forced, etc.
