today is the first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

Previously known as Orange Shirt Day, this year September 30th is the first official federal holiday honouring the Indigenous peoples of Canada - the Inuit, Metis, and First Nations - and acknowledging the harrowing history of cultural genocide by Canada's government, particularly via the abusive Residential School system. Our campus in Surrey is built on the unceded (never treatied, sold, or otherwise given up by its original inhabitants) land of the Katzie, sc̓əwaθenaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsawwassen), Kwikwetlem, S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō),Kwantlen, and Stz'uminus peoples.
