Previously known as Orange Shirt Day, this year September 30th is the first official federal holiday honouring the Indigenous peoples of Canada - the Inuit, Metis, and First Nations - and acknowledging the harrowing history of cultural genocide by Canada's government, particularly via the abusive Residential School system.
