OFFICE:
You need Microsoft Office for the following courses: ITC, MSW, MSE, MSP, OSK. However, I recommend it for all students. You need version 2016 or later.
Office is the name of a suite of Microsoft programs including Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. These programs require an active license in order to use (terminology: they are commercial or commercially licensed downloads). The licenses cost money - to access a license for free through the college, see instructions to activate the account and to download/install the desktop apps, both of which documents are also linked on the tab The Lab.
You need this student account to access all of the Office programs, including Teams for meetings.
If you need further assistance with the install, let me know and we'll set up a one-on-one Teams (or Zoom, if Teams if not working - for Teams help, use this document to activate your account, view the Tour video on the Lectures tab, and/or click here).
For help with digital editing in Word, see the video on the Writing Resources tab.
For Outlook assistance, see the video at the bottom of the ITC Courses page.
You can also use the programs online within your browser via Office.com (after you set up your license).
PEARSON:
If your Pearson course is not opening, contact me immediately to activate. It should be accessible on ECampus under Student Resources > MyLab IT Course Materials. You will not be able to access until your attendance has been entered on the first day of class.
You are not responsible for the "explorer" content. The etexts provided are, unfortunately, not downloadable. I have provided alternates on your Course pages - these are pdfs labelled as "creating documents in x."
Start at Module 1. Exception: Word students should begin at Module 2.
Complete all Module simulation activities, Graders, and "Exams." Exception: Word students are not assigned the fourth chapter (Modules 11 onward + Final 2). Make sure you have a tracker sheet (linked on the lab site Courses pages). I am only taking your grades from the assignments and tests listed on the tracker.
The Simulations will use Microsoft version 2019 (Excel) and 2016 (Word - there are minimal differences between versions; PowerPoint). If you have a Mac or a different version of Office, let me know so I can help accommodate any software differences. I have multiple posts to assist Mac students with simulations, the File tab, and keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys).
Check out the video on the Lectures page called "How to start Pearson courses" for a video demo and brief tour.
Use the video "How to check your marks in Pearson" to find out how to view and troubleshoot your results. You have multiple attempts for all activities: 5 for Graders, 3 for "Exams," and unlimited for simulations.
Remember to send your specific questions via email so that I can create or provide resources for you.
