6th October, Tuesday

Good morning, everyone.

Today's schedule: 8.30am - morning meeting - everyone 10.30 - SSS lecture discussion 11am - office "hour" - drop ins until noon

Daily instruction: everyone

Be sure to sign in on ECampus from 8am to noon (the duration of class) for attendance tracking. Our meeting will be at 8.30am as usual. The link will be posted on this page, Announcements, as it goes live.

Please take a moment this morning to read through yesterday's posts and the FAQ tab of the blog: https://caitlinbaird1.wixsite.com/thelab/blog/categories/faqs

Please watch the Tuesday video (on the Lectures tab) and come prepared to the 8.30 meeting with your questions.

If you haven't already, please watch the Welcome video and resource tour videos and read through your welcome documents including Lab Policies and the Daily Schedule. Along with the course-specific "tour" videos on your Courses pages, you will find a generic tour of the site on the Lectures tab, alongside a tour of the Writing Resources. The "tour" videos show you where to find all the resources for your course.

Be sure to check this week's Zoom schedule which I've posted on the Announcements tab.

Daily instruction by course:

SSS:

If there was confusion yesterday, use the document "Welcome Instructions" (on the tab "The Lab") to access Enriched Academy via ECampus. Begin the videos. There are 11 sets of videos in all; the last one is called "Career Mastery." When you finish this 11th set, you will be able to download a certificate of completion. I have a video demo showing you how to download the certificate on your Courses page. You have until Friday at 4pm to watch the videos and email me a copy of your certificate. Note: there is a workbook, and various other study material, available on Enriched Academy but, as this is a pass/fail course, you do not need to complete these unless you wish to do so. There are also little quizzes between the video sets. I do not need you to submit your marks from these. The other half of the course is a citation assignment, wherein you will learn how to find and evaluate resources, integrate source material into your writing, and properly cite your sources. Like your Enriched Academy certificate, this is due via email Friday at 4pm. I would like you to prioritize this today. To begin, watch the lectures: Citation Lecture 1, Source Evaluation and Quote Integration, Lecture 3. Details about the assignment itself are in the videos SSS and BC-PRD and Citation Assignment Overview; they are also listed on your Courses page. You should also look at the example assignment on the Citations tab. From now until Friday, it's up to you how you divide your time between completing Enriched Academy and the citation assignment. Please check the week's meeting schedule and come prepared to all SSS/BC-PRD meetings with your questions.

B1075R:

As you watch the videos and read the articles for response, make any notes you have about your reactions, questions, etc. You can agree or disagree or be unsure. This is not a formal assignment. I'm most interested in the connections you make and ideas you have. Treat it more like a daily journal. For your Mystery Shopper assignment, remember you can choose any kind of business(es) - a dental office, a grocery store, a restaurant, a bank - that is relevant to your future career. Tomorrow you will have an opportunity to study in a group meeting.

CES:

Please watch the video Cover Letter Guide and read its corresponding document in the DropBox. Write a cover letter for your field. There are other resources available on the Courses page as well. Respond to your master ad with your content. Note: please read the article on patchwriting; my integrity policies are very strict. When you have completed your cover letter, please update your resume as well - be sure to include your VaCC education. Send your cover letter drafts and up-to-date resumes to me before class begins tomorrow at the latest; I will upload your drafts to the DropBox. As well as the resources on your Courses page, please read through the CES tag on this blog: https://caitlinbaird1.wixsite.com/thelab/blog/categories/ces

ITC:

You have the freedom to do your three assignments in any order, so I suggest starting with the program(s) with which you are most familiar (usually Word). Remember the instructions are on ECampus while example assignments are available via a button on your Courses page on this site. Note: you only need to complete three documents, not nine. There are three case study options for each assignment; only choose one per assignment. Progress through the PDFs (on your Courses page) to fill in your study guides, using the study guides to show you where to focus your attention for memorization. On Thursday, I will assign the review video which corresponds with your study guide - either week 1 or week 2 - but you can access these at any time on the Lectures tab. Please note I have a full walkthrough of the Excel assignment (Assignment 2, Case Study 2) on your Courses page, as well as many demos on each of the Courses pages for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

KBD:

Continue with Typing Club and the games. Make sure you read the "KBD quick facts" post on the FAQs. Please let me know if you are unable to access any of the programs.

MSE, MSP, MSW:

Continue within Pearson. If you haven't yet, please watch the video "How to check your grades in Pearson" on the Lectures tab. You have multiple attempts for the assignments etc; please send me an email if you want me to increase the tries available. Download your grades tracker form from your Courses page if you are yet to do so. Remember this is how you will be recording and submitting your final grades. Use the "Comments" section to let me know if there are any assignments you want me to manually grade. MSW only: Start Pearson at Module 2. Refer to your grades tracker and do not complete Module 13 or Final Exam 2.

OSK:

Continue with the booklet, study guides, and presentation. Everything is downloadable from your Courses page. I suggest you check out the video "Lecture: Alphabetical Filing Rules" and the PowerPoint resources on its Courses page.
